about Kona coffee.

El Patron, Bruce, shows off just picked "cherry."

WHAT IS 100% KONA COFFEE?

It is coffee grown exclusively in the districts of North and South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Be aware that many coffees labeled “Kona” or “Kona Blend” contain almost no Kona beans at all. Unlike blended Scotch, which is a mixture of several Scotch whiskies, Kona blends consist of 10% or less Kona, the rest being lower quality coffee of uncertain origin.

100% Kona is the real thing --- not a component of a “mystery blend.”

WHAT IS ESTATE COFFEE?

Estate coffee is coffee from a single farm and is carefully nurtured by the grower. Tenderly pampered, this special crop from a piece of land in a unique microclimate will have its own taste profile.

WHAT IS GREEN COFFEE?

Green coffee is coffee that has been harvested, dried, and hulled. It can be stored for months in this form.

Many coffee connoisseurs prefer to purchase green beans to roast themselves for the freshest custom brew.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC FARMING?

Rancho Aloha 100% Kona coffee is an organic product, certified by the Hawaii Organic Farmers Association (HOFA).

Organic growers do not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. A rigorous inspection and certification process ensures that the customer receives the purest possible product.

Organic farming promotes sustainable agriculture, not “chemical farming.”

WHAT TYPES OF COFFEE DOES RANCHO ALOHA OFFER?

Fresh roasted whole bean for optimal freshness.

We offer a Prize-Winning-Roast (a medium roast) and a Mellow Medium-Dark Roast --- flavors and aromas are fully developed and the special taste of Kona is highlighted.

Green coffee is also available in one, two, five and ten pound bags.

HOW SHOULD COFFEE BE BREWED?

We recommend the French Press method. Coffee is coarsely ground and steeped for three to four minutes. A little experimentation will help you determine the amount of coffee to use --- generally one to two measures per six ounces of water. Filtered water is preferred --- and grind the coffee just before brewing.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE 100% KONA COFFEE?

Rancho Aloha coffee is packaged in sealed foil bags which have a one-way valve, allowing gasses to escape but preventing air from entering.

Once the bag is opened, keep beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Storing coffee in the freezer or refrigerator exposes it to condensation, and moisture and air damage freshness and aroma.
